Surgeons seeking allograft solutions for hammertoe can now take advantage of a line of four implants.
The Preserve™ HammerGraft™ System includes four allografts, straight or angled, with lengths of 2.3 and 2.8 mm, according to the manufacturer Paragon 28. The company notes the grafts are harvested from the tibia’s or femur’s cortical rims to match the density of the proximal interphalangeal joint and meet requirements for strength and blood flow in the implant region. Paragon 28 notes that the implant’s cross section helps resist rotation and its tapered ends ease insertion.
The Preserve line’s implants are processed aseptically without gamma radiation or bleaching. Paragon 28 says the HammerGraft implant is packaged in a hydration solution with no reconstitution required. The company adds that the HammerGraft also includes dense cancellous spacers, available in 6, 8 and 10 mm, designed to fit over the implant when one desires lengthening at the proximal interphalangeal joint.

Addressing Ankle Arthroplasty Challenges
An ankle implant now available in the United States can address complications and challenges of arthroplasty while accommodating anatomical variations.
The Cadence® Total Ankle System has tibial components that are side specific and anatomical, and the manufacturer Integra LifeSciences says these components are designed to avoid fibular impingement. The side-specific, anatomical talar components can minimize resected talar bone and preserve ankle vascularity, according to the company.
In addition, Integra LifeSciences says the Cadence’s bearing insert components are manufactured from a highly crosslinked, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene to facilitate improved wear. The company says the implant features sagittal profile options to address subluxed talar anatomy.
